A detailed look at Saturday’s football state finals for Class 3A, 4A, and 5A, courtesy of the IHSAA:
CLASS 3A: WEST LAFAYETTE (14-0) VS. EVANSVILLE MEMORIAL (11-3), NOON ET
#2 West Lafayette Red Devils
• One of five unbeaten teams in this year’s state finals.
• West Lafayette playing in first state finals since 1993 2A championship season and third overall.
• Team beat #3 Eastbrook, 35-14, in the regional and #4 Jimtown, 28-14, in the semistate.
• West Lafayette among state leaders in scoring per game (36.8), points allowed (12.5), and margin of victory (24.3).
• Quarterback Daniel Wodicka has passed for 2,023 yards this season and also leads the team in rushing with 1,353 yards (97 YPG) and 23 TDs.
• Andrew Peckny leads team in receiving with 772 yards and 12 TDs.
• Red Devils own state’s best record over the last two seasons at 25-1 (.962) and third-best over three-year span at 33-3 (.917).
• First time two teams from Tippecanoe County have played in the state finals in the same year (Lafayette Central Catholic is the other).
• Champions of the Hoosier Conference.

#8 Evansville Memorial Tigers
• One of two teams back from 2008 state finals (Carmel is the other).
• Tigers started the season 1-3 but have won 10 straight games since. Their last defeat came to conference rival and 4A state finalist Evansville Reitz, 28-14, on Sept. 11.
• Memorial finished as last year’s state runner-up losing to Bellmont, 28-14, and is playing for its first football state title.
• For the second year in a row, Tigers topped #5 Heritage Hills (28-20) in the regional and upset top-ranked Indianapolis Chatard, 37-21, in last Saturday’s semistate.
• Quarterback Grant Gribbins leads the state in passing yards with 3,240. He has 8,592 for his career, the eighth-best total in state history.
• Receiver Jonathon Wandling ranks among the state leaders with 1,275 receiving yards this year.
• Coach John Hurley has guided the Tigers to the state championship game in each of his first two seasons as a head coach.
• First time two Evansville teams have played in the state finals in the same year (Evansville Reitz is the other).

#7 Lowell Red Devils
• Lowell playing for its second football state championship.
• School making its third trip to state championship game in five years and will face Evansville Reitz for the second time. Reitz claimed a 33-14 championship game victory two years ago.
• In Reitz, the Red Devils will face their fifth Top 10 team during this tournament, having won at #4 Plymouth, 14-6, vs. #10 South Bend Washington, 24-7, at #9 Hammond Morton, 42-0, in the regional and vs. #2 Fort Wayne Dwenger, 24-21, in Saturday’s semistate.
• Last Saturday’s win over Dwenger was the third consecutive year the two teams met for the semistate crown.
• Tailback Brandon Grubbe ranks among the state leaders with 2,243 yards (172.5 YPG) and 36 TDs.
• Lowell’s only loss came in Week 8, 15-13, at Northwest Crossroads Conference rival Munster. Lowell and Munster shared the conference championship.
• Lowell owns state’s third-best record over last two years at 26-2 (.929) and fifth-best over three years at 39-4 (.907).

• One of five unbeaten teams in this year’s state finals.
• Reitz making its second appearance in 4A title game in three seasons and third overall, having beaten Lowell, 33-14, in the 2007 title game.
• Panthers upset top-ranked and defending state champion Indianapolis Cathedral, 31-10, for the second time in three years in last Friday’s semistate. The victory ended Cathedral’s 10-game tournament win streak.
• Panthers beat 3A state finalist and conference rival Evansville Memorial, 28-14, on Sept. 11 and went on to win Southern Indiana Athletic Conference championship.
• Reitz ranks 10th in state in points per game (39.2), 13th in points allowed (8.6), and eighth in margin of victory (30.6)
• Panthers own state’s best three-year record at 38-2 (.950) and third-best over last four seasons at 47-6 (.887).
• Quarterback Matt McIntosh is the younger brother of 2007 Mr. Football Paul McIntosh, who quarterbacked Reitz to the 4A title two years ago. Matt has thrown for more than 2,000 yards (157.5 YPG) and 24 TDs and also leads the team in rushing with 1,414 yards (108.8).
• Fullback Alordo Bell has also rushed for 1,045 yards (74.6 YPG) and 16 TDs.

• Carmel playing for seventh football state championship and will face Warren Central in 5A championship game for second time in four years. Carmel fell, 35-14, in the 2006 title game.

• Greyhounds tie state record with fourth consecutive state finals appearance (4 by Fort Wayne Luers, 1999-2002; 4 by Roncalli, 2002-05; 4 by Warren Central, 2003-06; 4 by Sheridan, 2005-08).
• Carmel, making its 10th state appearance, is one of seven schools with at least 10 trips to the football state finals.
